BEYOND CLOTHING

For me, upcycling and textile art have the potential to go far beyond clothing. They can be a form of activism and tell stories that extend beyond the human body. Lately, I’ve been exploring this more, and I’ve noticed it gives me a new sense of freedom. It began with the opportunity to create a custom Pride flag for Pride Amsterdam at Volkshotel, I decided to make a patchwork Progress flag out of old materials I had lying around my studio. I love patchworking because it allows me to bring different elements and stories together into a visually interesting yet cohesive whole.

UPCYCLING FURNITURE

Something else I’ve been working on beyond clothing is furniture. I love constructing fabrics, and suddenly I thought: why not use them to upholster furniture? So that’s what I did. It’s a learning process and just the beginning, but it feels like a great way to expand my skills and my work.
