FRAGMENTED REALITIES

Where does objective reality end, and where does our personal experience begin? How much does perception influence the way we see the world? These questions inspired my Fragmented Realities collection.

We all look at the world around us through our own unique lens, shaped by experiences, memories, beliefs, and identities. Each piece in this collection is meant to be a visual metaphor, inviting reflection on how our individual perspectives shape the reality we experience.

The collection began with experiments in light, print, and upcycled white garments, which were reworked to serve as blank canvases. These garments became the base for screen-printed visuals expressing my thoughts on perception.

I started by creating all the prints and screens, then applied them to the ready-made garments in vibrant red and blue—two opposing colors on the color wheel. When viewed under their respective colored light or through a lens, they cancel each other out, adding a layered dimension to the concept.

The four-look collection was shown at Kunstliefde Utrecht and during the Fashionclash Festival. At the exhibition, viewers had the opportunity to look at the pieces through colored lenses, revealing how the prints and messages transformed. My goal is to encourage people to step outside their usual way of seeing things and reflect on how our fragmented perceptions influence the realities we live in.
