THE PLASTIC BAG PROJECT

In a world where plastic bags may seem like trash to most, I see an opportunity to create something unique and tell a powerful story.

THIS series of CROSSBODY BAGs IS CRAFTED ENTIRELY FROM RECYCLED PLASTIC SHOPPING BAGS, REFLECTING MY COMMITMENT TO SUSTAINABILITY AND UPCYCLING. FASHION IS ONE OF THE WORLD’S MOST POLLUTING INDUSTRIES, AND PLASTIC WASTE IS A GLOBAL PROBLEM. by combining the two in this project, I AIM TO TURN TWO NEGATIVES INTO A POSITIVE, by creating a stylish wearable statement.

ONE OF MY FAVORITE ITEMS TO CREATE are BAGS—THEY’RE PRACTICAL, VERSATILE, AND THE PERFECT ACCESSORY TO COMPLETE A LOOK. WITH BAGS, SIZING ISN’T RESTRICTIVE, MAKING THEM ACCESSIBLE AND READY TO BE WORN BY ANYONE. WHEN I LAUNCHED MY BRAND DFC, THE PLASTIC BAG PROJECT WAS MY FIRST PRODUCT TO HIT THE STORE. FOR SIX MONTHS, I FOCUSED ON PERFECTING THIS DESIGN AND EXPLORING HOW BEST TO BRING IT TO PEOPle.

The plastic bags used as main material carry an inherent irony: they preach sustainability, urging reuse, yet they’re often treated as disposable. By using collage techniques to juxtapose text and visuals, I transform these discarded materials into a message, encouraging people to reconsider their plastic use, buying habits, and impact on the planet.
